Molecular Epidemiology of Clade 1 Influenza A Viruses (H5N1), Southern Indochina Peninsula, 2004–2007

چکیده
To determine the origin of influenza A virus (H5N1) epizootics in Cambodia, we used maximum-likelihood and Bayesian methods to analyze the genetic sequences of subtype H5N1 strains from Cambodia and neighboring areas. Poultry movements, rather than repeated reintroduction of subtype H5N1 viruses by wild birds, appear to explain virus circulation and perpetuation.

New insights into clade 1 influenza A (H5N1) virus circulation in Cambodia and within the Southern Indochina peninsula
Results All viruses isolated in Cambodia since 2004 belong to clade 1, genotype Z. Based on phylogenetic relationships, HPAI H5N1 virus was probably introduced from Thailand in 2004. In 2005 and 2006, several sublineages emerged in Cambodia and were probably the result of multiple introductions of H5N1 virus from Vietnam where similar strains were detected before outbreaks occurred in Cambodia....
متن کاملMultiple Sublineages of Influenza A Virus (H5N1), Vietnam, 2005−2007
Phylogenetic analysis of influenza subtype H5N1 viruses isolated from Vietnam during 2005-2007 shows that multiple sublineages are present in Vietnam. Clade 2.3.4 viruses have replaced clade 1 viruses in northern Vietnam, and clade 1 viruses have been detected in southern Vietnam. Reassortment between these 2 sublineages has also occurred.

We tested the neuraminidase drug sensitivity of clade 1 and clade 2 influenza A (H5N1). All viruses demonstrated similar sensitivity to zanamivir, but compared with the 2004 clade 1 viruses, the Cambodian 2005 viruses were 6-fold less sensitive and the Indonesian clade 2 viruses were up to 30-fold less sensitive to oseltamivir.
متن کاملPhylogenetic and Pathogenic Analyses of Avian Influenza A H5N1 Viruses Isolated from Poultry in Vietnam
Despite great efforts to control the infection of poultry with H5N1 viruses, these pathogens continue to evolve and spread in nature, threatening public health. Elucidating the characteristics of H5N1 avian influenza virus will benefit disease control and pandemic preparation. Here, we sequenced the genomes of 15 H5N1 avian influenza viruses isolated in Vietnam in 2006 and 2007 and performed ph...
متن کاملCross‐neutralisation of antibodies elicited by an inactivated split‐virion influenza A/Vietnam/1194/2004 (H5N1) vaccine in healthy adults against H5N1 clade 2 strains
BACKGROUND Highly pathogenic avian influenza A H5N1 viruses are widespread in different parts of the world and have evolved into clade 1 and 2 lineages. Their continuing circulation represents serious pandemic threat, spurring human vaccine development efforts. Initial clinical trials tested vaccines prepared from clade 1 strains circulating in 2004. METHODS Post-vaccination sera from a phase...
